Welcome
to NeptuneSite!
This
site is created to celebrate a series that so far has been consistently
improving in the ratings week to week, but it still could use
more viewers. You've probably come because you already are a fan
of Veronica Mars, you want to know who killed Lilly, what
Weevil's connection is to Lilly Kane, or why Mallory Dent is in
the opening credits every week yet never seems to appear on the
show.
Since
you may have come through KryptonSite
(the web's first source for Smallville), you might have
discovered the show because of the similarity in appearance to
Smallville's blond reporter, Chloe Sullivan. You know,
the snarky one with blond flippy hair who has connections all
over the place, whose mom left her and her dad a few years ago.
You might have tuned into Veronica Mars thinking "hey,
they're a lot alike," and then the differences and uniqueness
of the character start to sink in.
Veronica
Mars is not Chloe Sullivan, though seeing the two characters
work together would be a lot of fun. Hey, over at KryptonSite
we were the first to scream "rip off" before actually
seeing the show and knowing better. (Sorry!) This character, Veronica
Mars (no one ever seems to refer to her by just her first name),
has gone through a lot in the past year or so. She was one of
the school's most popular, dating the very wealthy Duncan Kane.
Her father was the sheriff of her town of Neptune, and everyone
loved him. Things all changed the night Lilly Kane - Duncan's
sister and Veronica's friend - was murdered. It appeared that
their father, Jake Kane, was the one who did it, and Sheriff Keith
Mars had him arrested. And then someone else confessed to the
murder. The prestige of Sheriff Mars was lost. He lost his job,
and wife Lianne, unable to handle not being one of high society,
left him. Veronica's relationship with Duncan was now over and
she was exiled from Neptune High's upper crust. Soon after was
an incident in which Veronica was raped. The last boyfriend she
had, Troy Vandergraff, left town after trying to smuggle steroids
in a pinata. Doesn't sound like one's world could crash down much
more, does it?
Now,
Veronica's father Keith runs Mars Investigations. He's a detective,
far more competent than the police force Neptune has to offer.
Veronica, crafty as she is, helps Dad out with his cases. Aided
by sidekick Wallace and interacting with such folks as biker gang
leader Weevil, it's become Veronica's job to solve the case and
solve a few mysteries - starting with finding out why her mother
left and what her association is with the Kane family, and also,
to find out who really did kill her friend, Lilly Kane.
Veronica
Mars is created by Rob Thomas, whose series Cupid a
few years ago got rave reviews, but sadly didn't last very long.
Sounds
cool? Might want to switch on UPN (yes, UPN!) Tuesday night at
9. The spoilers page will tell
you what's coming up. Repeats of the show can be found on Tuesday
nights at 7PM (ET) on MTV. If you want to know more about the
characters on the show, we highly recommend UPN's
official Veronica Mars site. Look under "Dossiers"
for more information.
As
there are already some great Veronica Mars sites out there
(see links), and unlike KryptonSite
which we try to make an all-stops shop, we're going to do our
best to be as different and unique as possible, and focus primarily
on the latest news, spoilers, and promotional photos. There will,
however, be a forum as most good
websites would have, and a photo gallery and cast bios will be
coming soon. We hope to spend time taking a look at Veronica Mars
the show and, hopefully, dissecting every aspect of Veronica's
world. Enjoy! Feedback is welcome.
