The Lamb: Michael Muhney Talks Neptune's Finest
Interview
conducted by Craig Byrne
- NeptuneSite Webmaster
The
third season premiere of Veronica Mars airs on Tuesday,
October 3 at 9PM on the CW. One highlight of the new season is
the promotion of frequent recurring guest star Michael Muhney
to series regular in the popular role of Sheriff Don Lamb.
We
caught up with Muhney earlier this summer for a brief interview,
where he talked about the new season (mostly spoiler-free) and
also discussed the many possibilities that would come from a Don
Lamb action figure.
The
interview, with Neptunesite's Craig Byrne, follows. Our questions
are in bold, answers are not.
So
is it true that you're going to be a series regular this year?
That
is correct.
Would
you care to talk a little about that?
To
be honest, I'm thrilled. I feel like I've put in all these long
hours and worked on so many episodes, have done the show since
the pilot, and I feel like it's a wonderful reward that I'm getting
from Rob, as well as a wedding gift. He called me in February,
just a few days after I got married, and said "Shh... don't
tell, but the network and the studio, they want you full time,"
so it was a gift from the TV gods.
Are
you going to be in all 22 episodes of Season Three?
I
wish. I could perhaps be in as many as 18 to 20. It just depends
on how much they need me, and how available I can be. I would
say minimally, you're gonna see me in at least every other episode,
if not a lot more.
Are
we going to see Lamb out of uniform this year?
I
hope so. Rob said that he would like to have me in a t-shirt and
jeans, or just your normal, what do you call them - civvies. But
I think the first few appearances that I make, I'm going to have
to be in my sheriff's outfit, because we have to establish that
with the new audience.
In
the episode "Donut Run" you had a great banter or partnership
with Xena's Lucy Lawless. Can you talk a little bit about
that?
It
was fun/emasculating. I wanted to kiss her and punch her at the
end of every take, but I chose neither. But it was certainly a
blast. She's a lot of fun to play with, and a very generous, genuine
person.
How
do you feel that Lamb has changed since Season One?
Here's
what I think: I think Lamb hasn't changed one iota. I think what
the audience has seen of him, little flashes and whatever, that's
changed peoples' opinion, but I think Lamb doesn't feel like he's
grown. He's got his opinions. They're set in stone. He feels what
he feels about certain things. But there is room for improvement.
Obviously with Lamb, there certainly is. But I think Lamb is on
cruise control right now until he hits a big speed bump.
How
does Lamb's role change in Season 3?
I'm
not sure if my role will change. The question is going to be,
what snippets of me is the audience going to see that changes
their opinion of me.
Is
there any chance of a love interest this year?
Every
week. Every damn week. Potentially, yeah, there could be.
So
Lamb could be the Captain Kirk of Veronica Mars?
[Laughs]
Yes, with speech patterns and all. I've been working on it over
the summer.
It
was recently announced that some Veronica Mars action figures
will soon be made. When is Lamb going to get an action figure?
Are
you kidding me? I haven't heard that. Okay, well then I want to
end this interview and go beg Rob to make a Lamb action figure.
That would be awesome.
Apparently
they're making Veronica, Logan, and Weevil to start.
Dammit.
All right. Well, I better be in the second phase, or there's gonna
be hell to pay. [Plus] Everyone needs to get a Lamb action figure
so they can have Veronica beat the sh*t out of somebody. Or make
out. I'm just sayin'.
Do
you think Veronica is going to beat the sh*t out of, or make out
with Lamb this season?
One
of two will happen this season. You have my word.
If
they did make a Lamb action figure, what accessories would he
have?
Well,
he would have to have extra large pants. He would be equipped
with the kung-fu grip. And he would have a lightsaber that comes
out of his right forearm.
What
do you think the show's move to a new network?
I
think it's fantastic. And so far, the support from that network
both publicity wise and behind the scenes is a tremendous increase
and improvement from the last two years.
