UPN
Moves Premiere Date; Season 2 Starts September 28
UPN
has changed the premiere date of Veronica Mars Season 2
from September 21 to the new date of September 28 to make way
for a two-hour season premiere for America's Next Top Model.
Boo! Hiss! The good thing about this, though, is it means
that the season premiere won't be up against the Season 2 premiere
of Lost.
Here's
the repeat schedule for the coming weeks. All episodes air Wednesdays
at 9PM (ET) on UPN.

Fan
Fundraiser For Kristen Bell's Favorite Charity
To
celebrate the upcoming second season, a group
of fans is raising money to benefit one of Kristen Bell's
favorite causes - an animal shelter.
The
East
Valley animal shelter in North Hollywood is the recipient
of the fan fundraiser, which has already collected over $200.
But of course, that's not nearly enough!
Animal
shelters are a cause that is near and dear to Kristen. She is
a big believer in adopting animals from shelters. She even did
a PSA urging people to adopt, instead of buy, their next pet.
For much more information, and where to donate, visit the fundraiser

Veronica
Mars Season 1 Had A Backup Killer
No,
nothing to do with Veronica's dog... some recent quotes at Zap2It.com
(warning: season 1 finale spoilers) revealed that, if the guilty
party of "who killed Lilly Kane" had been leaked onto
the Internet or was known among fans, there was a backup plan
for someone to be the killer - and that person would have been
Duncan (Teddy Dunn).
"If
I had to evolve it one more level, if there had to be one more
twist -- and I think it would have been one twist too many --
it was that Duncan really did it and that he hadn't blacked out
and that he was very aware of what he did and that he played his
parents," creator Rob Thomas said at the site. "That
was, had it leaked and I wanted to say, 'OK, new script pages,'
which I think would have really bummed Teddy Dunn out."
Teddy
was surprised to learn the news. "Really?" he said.
"He never told me that. Thanks, Rob. That shows me how expendable
I am on this show. Everybody can come and go. Nobody's above anything,
except for Kristen."
Teddy
did reveal that he did know more than most of the other cast members
because of Duncan's role in the mystery. "It was fun to know
some things that the other cast members didn't. I had Kristen
going for a while that Rob had confided to me and only me who
the murderer actually was and she was really pissed off."

Max
Greenfield At WB Party
Max
Greenfield (Deputy Leo) was spotted at the WB's 2005 TCA All-Star
Party on Friday night, July 22. Neptunesite's Craig Byrne caught
up with Max (a very cool guy by the way!) and was able to get
some quotes from "Deputy Leo" himself. Here's what Max
had to say:
"I
will tell you this, from an outside perspective, I came in as
an outsider and in the middle of the season, and they already
built something that was really working so well. You know, they
created in TV what they like to call a hit. They really created
something, and obviously there's such a following for it, and
to come in at the mid-season and reap kind of the benefit that
they have created is always an odd situation, and there was not
a person on that set that was not welcome and not the nicest people
in the world."
Max
had nice things to say about everyone, from Kristen all the way
through to the grips, the PA's, and the entire staff. He said
that Rob Thomas has been great about the possibility of leaving
Deputy Leo in that "universe," and we shouldn't be surprised
if we see him again on the show.
You
can next see Max Greenfield on Modern Men, a new sitcom
premiering on the WB in midseason. We'll let you know when we
know of an air date.

Kristen
Bell Talks Music With TV Guide
In Reefer Madness and even the VM episode "Clash of the Tritons,"
it was very clear that Kristen Bell (Veronica) has a terrific
singing voice. So does she have any plans to release a CD at any
point?
"If
I released an album, it would be a lot different from the choices
most girls my age have made," she said in an interview that
appeared today at TV
Guide
Online. "At this point, I don't have any desire to write
my own pop music, so I think I'd probably redo a bunch of Judy
Garland songs. I'd be much more of a Michael Bublé kind
of a singer, doing classics."

Rob
Thomas Reveals Emmy News
Over
at Television Without Pity, VM creator Rob Thomas
revealed the plans for a Season 1 Emmy screener that will
be going out to those who vote:
As
you probably know, UPN is our network. Warner Brothers is our
studio. Networks buy television shows from studios and both
the studio and network give creative input to the shows. I mention
this only because WB has been an amazing home for us. Warner
Brothers President Peter Roth just launched an Emmy campaign
for the show. Emmy campaigns are expensive and unheard of for
struggling shows on UPN. It means they place ads in the trades
touting our show and they send DVDs to all the voting members
of the television academy. Because I think you'll enjoy knowing
this -- the three shows that will be on our Emmy DVD are the
pilot, Clash of the Tritons and A Trip to the Dentist. (A Trip
to the Dentist is, without a doubt, the proudest I've been of
an episode of televison that I have my name on. Of course, I
haven't seen the finale cut together, yet.)
You'd
be hard pressed to watch "Trip to the Dentist" without
thinking Kristen Bell is the best actress on television, and
for those Teddy Dunn doubters out there -- just you wait.

Cast Appearances: Boston on Friday & New York on Saturday!
Special thanks to: Vortex
The
cast of Veronica Mars will be making two public appearances
in the next few days.
The
entire cast is scheduled to appear at the CambridgeSide Galleria
in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the food court between 3-5PM
on Friday, April 8. The "UPN38 crew" will be
handing out prizes, too.
The
address for the CambridgeSide Galleria is at 100 CambridgeSide
Place in Cambridge, MA 02141.
Then,
on Saturday, April 9, the cast will be appearing at Macy's
on Herald Square in New York City. That event will happen
from 1-3PM, and there will be freebies given out as supplies last.
Or, you know, if you want to send them to your favorite webmaster.
Or me, if Couch Baron's already got the free stuff. But anyway,
Macy's will also have an appearance by the casting director for
America's Next Top Model on the same day. Click
here for more details on that.
The
address for Macy's Herald Square is 151 West 34th Street, New
York, NY 10001.
Please,
if you're near Boston or NYC and love Veronica Mars, show
up and show your support for the show and the actors. A big turnout
will make people stand up and notice; but just as important as
that, a big turnout will show the actors that we really love what
they do and gives them a chance to receive some well-deserved
appreciation. All of them work long hours and then do these mall
appearances to meet the fans; let them know that what they're
doing is worth it.
If
any of you get any pictures that you can share, please
e-mail us and we'd love to post them here at Neptunesite.
And of course, tell Kristen, Enrico, Teddy, Francis, Percy, Jason,
and any other cast members that may show up that Craig from Neptunesite

TIME
Labels Veronica Mars As "One Of The Best Dramas On
TV Now"
The
April 4, 2005 issue of TIME Magazine has listed Veronica
Mars as "one of the best dramas on TV now." Here's
what they had to say about our favorite teen private investigator:
"A
high school girl detective (Kristen Bell) is trying to find the
stranger who drugged and date-raped her, solve the murder of her
best friend and unearth secrets of her own past in the process.
It may sound like The O.C.S.I., but Mars is much better than its
high-concept premise. Bell is a captivating star, with a girl
scout's face and Philip Marlowe's jadedness. And like its godsister
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mars uses its pulp premise to dramatize
a universal teen experience: that growing up means sleuthing out
the mystery of who you really are."
Also
on the TIME list were Deadwood, Lost, The Shield, and Veronica's
Tuesday-night competitor, House. You can read the complete
article online by clicking

his most memorable Veronica Mars moment so far:
"The
80s dance was pretty funny, seeing 80s kids running around in
80s outfits and the wardrobe department is amazing over there,
they really dressed everybody in the most insane outfits. Kind
of showing up to the set that day was like whoa, you walk into

Mars Dominates E! Online's "Save Our Show" Poll
The
fans have spoken, and again, Veronica Mars has taken the
top spot at a E! Online poll.
E!
Online's "Watch With Kristin" asked which series, out
of a list of fifteen, deserved another season on the air. Out
of over 686,000 voters, Veronica Mars took the top spot
with... 56%! Yes, you read that right! Veronica beat out such
shows as Arrested Development, Enterprise, Charmed, American
Dreams, and more! No other show even came close.
The
entire feature, which can be found here,
has some new quotes from Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, and executive
producer Rob Thomas, too. Kristen reveals that she figured out
correctly back in October who the murderer of Lilly Kane would
be. (The answer will have to wait for the season finale!) "You'll
be surprised, but it's a really good surprised," Kristen
teases.
"I
dropped my script. It's soo, soooo good," Enrico Colantoni
said about the season's final story. Executive producer and creator
Rob Thomas also had positive words to say about the show's possibilities
for a second year. He did say, however, that the person who is
the killer won't be back next season.

"Betty
and Veronica" Guest Spotlight
Playing
"Richie" on the March 29 episode of Veronica Mars
is someone who is best remembered for two roles - only one
that was actually seen on TV. Kyle Searles plays Richie, and his
other credits include a recurring role on 7th Heaven as
"Mac."
Kyle's
most famous role, however, is one that he played in a series pilot
that never aired on television. Before Jesse Metcalfe was recast
in the role, Kyle played John the gardener in the original, unaired
pilot episode of Desperate Housewives. ABC and critics
all thought he looked almost too young for the part, and there
were also criticisms that he didn't have chemistry with Eva Longoria.
(Is that possible?) Either way, Kyle was out, Metcalfe was in,
and now, we get to see Kyle on the next new Veronica Mars.

Kyle
Secor Joins Commander In Chief
No
matter what happens with this year's mysteries, Kyle Secor
(Jake Kane) might be a bit too busy for Veronica Mars next
year should there be a second season. Secor has landed a big role
in a new pilot titled Commander In Chief for ABC. The series
is about the first female President, and should the pilot be successful,
it could become a regular series this Fall.
Another
Veronica Mars actor landing a pilot for Fall 2005 is Leighton
Meester (Mars vs. Mars' Carrie Bishop). She stars in Fathom,
which sounds like a high-concept series for NBC that will be a
bit like Lost.

"Russkie
Business," Little Ratings Improvement
Critics
love Veronica Mars. Fans love Veronica Mars. UPN
loves Veronica Mars. So how come aren't the ratings improving?
One
could point to the UPN affiliates in Orlando, FL and Washington,
DC who chose to show basketball rather than Veronica. (Those
stations intend to show the episode this weekend - check your
local listings or affiliates for more details!) Or, it could be
the tough competition. One thing's for sure... people are missing
out on the life on Mars. Maybe a repeat showing at another

Confirmed:
Chasing Amy's Adams, Another Home Improvement Guest
Coming!
Last
week, "Min" wrote to us with some more tips about upcoming
guests for Veronica Mars. We are now happy to reveal that
the tips are true, and that these people will be appearing on
the April 12 episode, which is titled "Weapons of Class Destruction."
Hot
on the heels of courting Buffy fans by casting a member
of the Whedon stable, Veronica Mars is now courting the
fans of Kevin Smith as Joey Lauren Adams, best known as
Alyssa in Smith's film "Chasing Amy," is appearing in
the episode. For some details on her character visit the Spoilers
page and head for episode #18.
Episode
#18 is also includes actor Jonathan Taylor Thomas, so soon
after previous episodes guest starred his Home Improvement
brother, Zachery Ty Bryan. However, the two don't appear in the
same episodes. In his years after Home Improvement you
may have seen Thomas on such shows as Ally McBeal and Smallville.
As
we've stated before, visit
the Spoilers page for details on their
characters.

Another Online Alyson Hannigan Interview
We're sure there are some of you reading who are thinking "enough
with Alyson Hannigan already!" But, this is a Veronica
Mars news page, and her guest appearance is one of the most
long-awaited of the series. It could be the episode that brings
the series notice and attention that it deserves.
Today's
latest Hannigan interview happened at Zap2It.com,
where Alyson talked to Kate O'Hare. "I am a huge fan of the
show," she said, "and when they asked me to do it, it
was a little too hard to say 'no.' But I got so nervous, I couldn't
even speak. It was as if I'd never, ever done any work before.
It was very strange to me. I had total stage fright."
She
also addressed the comparisons between Veronica Mars and
Buffy. "They were talking about being compared to
Buffy, which I'm sure is annoying for them, but it's actually
a good thing. There's always going to be some sort of comparisons,
and at least it's a show that was also critically acclaimed, instead
of some sort of bad show. I would hope that Buffy fans
would watch it," she said.
Finally,
Alyson said something that all of us fans can agree with. "Hopefully
they'll get picked up for a second season, and there'll be more
of a big arc for my character. Call me optimistic, but if UPN
wants to have good shows on the network, I would think they'd
keep the ones they have," she said. "They need to keep
Veronica Mars, because it's such a good show. I don't understand
why people aren't watching it."
In
the interview, Alyson talked a lot more about
her character, so if you want to know, read
it at Zap2It. She also revealed when her next appearance on
the show will be, so we've updated the Neptunesite
Spoilers Page accordingly.

Hannigan
To Make A Return Appearance
The
Feb. 22 Veronica Mars may introduce Alyson Hannigan as
Logan's half-sister but it's simply an introduction to her character.
TV Guide's Michael
Ausiello caught up with Hannigan and learned a new scoop:
She, and her character, will be returning for the April 26 episode.
Hannigan
says that "Russkie Business" "is really just an
introduction to [my character] and telling the audience that she
exists so that later on I can actually have more to do. I hope
it works out because it is such a great show and it was so much
fun to do. But I got so nervous [on my first day]. I think I probably
blew my first scene. I don't know what happened. I just got so
nervous. It was as if I had never done a day on Buffy before!"

Hannigan
Talks About Trina Echolls' Future
Alyson
Hannigan's first episode off Veronica Mars doesn't
air until next week, but she's already talking about her future
on the show.
"Hopefully
I'll do a couple more episodes this season, then have a big arc
next season," she said in the Feb. 20-26 issue of TV Guide.
The article describes Trina as "Logan's spoiled half sister."
The
fact that she's hoping to come back "next season" is
very encouraging news for Veronica Mars. Just don't forget,
everyone, to be sure to get your Buffy-loving friends over
to watch next week... because the end result could mean more Hannigan,
and Veronica, in the future.

Veronica
Creator Rob Thomas Addresses Fans Online
Creator
and executive producer of Veronica Mars, Rob Thomas,
made a post on the Television
Without Pity site addressing the show's online fandom, particularly
the fans you'd find on TWOP.
He
said many things about the commentary and discussions he comes
across online, so be
sure to read the entire post, but most importantly, he addressed
the possibilities of a second season for Veronica Mars.
Here's some of what he said (and again, the original post is here,
so hopefully no one at TWOP will get mad for posting part of this
- hi, Couch Baron!)
UPN,
despite our low numbers, treats us like gold. Usually when a
show is failing to do the numbers a network wants it to do,
the network tries to "fix" a show. UPN isn't tinkering
with Veronica Mars. They have told us to "keep doing the
show your doing. It's up to us to bring an audience to the show."
Creatively, the executives at both our studio and our network
have been tremendously supportive.
Dawn
Ostroff, the network president, gave us an encouraging speech
about how Seinfeld, Cheers, even our OTH competition (see, I'm
catching on) were ratings flops until Season 2. At the recent
Television Critics Association network meetings, Dawn said that
nearly every critic in America let her know that she simply
can't cancel Veronica Mars.
That's
the good news. If there's bad news, it's that shows are often
cancelled by networks even when they love and are proud of a
show. At some point, an executive that I don't even know because
he/she is so far up the corporate food chain may simply look
at the numbers and pull the plug. Still, I would bet on us being
back before I bet against us.
And
there you have it! Read more of Mr. Thomas' comments by clicking
here.

Creator
Rob Thomas And Jason Dohring Talk About Alyson Hannigan's Casting
E!
Online's Kristin Veitch's Watch
With Kristin column this week has some quotes from Veronica
Mars creator Rob Thomas and "Logan Echolls"
Jason Dohring about the casting of Alyson Hannigan
in an upcoming episode as Logan's sister, Trina.
"I
called and begged and begged and begged," Veronica's creator
and executive producer, Rob Thomas, told Kristin. "But the
great thing about casting Alyson, her hesitation was like, 'Am
I going back and doing the new Buffy?' But at the same time, she
said she loved the show. She knew everything that was going on
and she's a really big Jason Dohring [Logan] fan. And the fact
that she would get to do scenes with Jason, actually, I think
meant a lot to her."
Jason
Dohring also weighed in. "I know originally we had thought
of maybe Denise Richards to play the role of my sister,"
Dohring said. "but she would've brought a lot of people that
would've seen it for only one show to check out if she was hot,
you know? So it's great, 'cause Alyson will bring the Buffy
crowd. And she was so nice, so wonderful. She was nicer than any
of us. I'm not joking. She was, like, beautifully nice."
(We
can confirm the "Buffy crowd" theory as we'd like to
welcome new visitors who have come by to check Neptunesite out!)

Rob
Thomas Talks About The Future
Also
at Watch
With Kristin, VM creator/executive producer Rob
Thomas talked about the chances that we'll see a Veronica
Mars Season Two.
"I
think they're really good. The network loves us and treats us
so well," he said. "They don't try to fix our show,
and so often if you're not doing numbers, the network tries to
fix it for you. And they have told us, 'You guys are doing the
show we want. It's our job to get people to watch it.' So, that's
been really lovely, and they're looking for any reason to keep
us. If our numbers drop in these last nine episodes, I don't think
we'd be back. If our numbers stay the same, we're probably 50/50.
If they go up at all, if they see any hopeful sign, we'll be back.
That's my guess, and I like our chances. I would bet on us before
I'd bet against us."

Veronica's
Creator Believes In Recycling
Special thanks to: Now
Playing
Here's
some trivia you might not have known: Veronica Mars creator
Rob Thomas was originally hired to be the showrunner for
a short-lived television series called Snoops, a series
which featured Paula Marshall (Veronica's Rebecca James)
as one of the leads. Thomas created a draft of the pilot, but
left the series due to creative differences with series creator
David E. Kelley.
Flash
forward to a few years later, and Thomas has a success with Veronica
Mars. Finally, some elements of Thomas' Snoops pilot
script are able to be used, and can be found in the upcoming episode
"Mars vs. Mars." I had written the first episode
of Snoops and we could just never get on the same page
about it, Thomas told Now
Playing, who caught up with him at a TCA event on Tuesday
night.

be surprised if the big name guest that UPN will be announcing
later this week will be Buffy's Willow herself, Alyson
Hannigan. Magic? Check. Cult hit? Major check. This information
has of course not been confirmed by any official sources, and
if we're wrong about it, no one kill us, as this is just speculation.
This

Curious
about that last song from Tuesday night's Veronica Mars?
The song is called "The Way You Are," by a New York-based

It

camping, then continues while Veronica prepares her camera, and
the photos are delivered.

Ah.
Now that that is out of our systems, it seems Veronica Mars

was no match for the Orange Bowl on ABC, but then again, nothing
did that well. Let's hope Veronica can keep up this momentum.

For "An Echolls Family Christmas"
The
ratings system must be flawed. It seems the viewership is growing,
hits for Neptunesite for example were higher last night than they'd
ever been. Watch With Kristin said "Watch It, Already!"
So, besides the fact that it was airing in mid-December, why were
overnight ratings for last night so low?
Here's
the overnight ratings breakdown. Maybe UPN should give Veronica
a second weekly showing so fanss of ABC's sitcoms, and The
Amazing Race and such shows can get another chance to watch.
Things may also get scary in January as FOX brings back American
Idol.

Mars won by a landslide.

cast members' opinions about who killed Lilly. "I have used
the investigative skills Veronica has given me, and I'm so sure
I've figured it out I don't even want to tell my family,"
Kristen Bell said, although she did say this: "The murderer
has been introduced, and the answer will surprise
you."
It

Sam
Sarpong Joins Veronica Mars
A
press release from PRLeap.com reveals that Sam Sarpong,
once the international face of Tommy Hilfiger, and host of the
S.I. TV The Rub, will be joining the cast of Veronica
Mars. Sam will play "Dime Bag," a famous rapper
that comes to the town of Neptune, Calif.
The
release reveals that Sarpong recently finished up a short stay
on the hit NBC drama ER, and will also appear in the 2005
feature Lucky 13 with Daryl Hannah, Jeremy Piven, Garry
Marshall, and Jami Gertz and Gradnite, with rapper Coolio.
Playing
the rapper Dime Bag will come easy for the young actor, who is
a member of the hip-hop/rock group The League along with childhood
friend Mike Kasem, son of legendary DJ Casey Kasem. "We may
both be rappers, but I am nowhere near as obnoxious as Dime Bag.
Hes a Divo, a male Diva," Sam says of the character he will
portray.
We
don't know if Dime Bag will be recurring or making only one appearance,
in the episode "Clash of the Tritons."

Update:
Is Sydney Tamiia Poitier's Mallory Dent Gone?
A
close look at the opening credits for the Nov. 30 Veronica
Mars showed a few new clips in the opening - and someone was
missing - Sydney Tamiia Poitier, who plays Mallory Dent.
Here's
the deal: Ms. Poitier is remaining with Veronica Mars,
but as a "recurring guest star," much like Amanda Seyfried
or Kyle Secor have been. Which does mean we have not seen the
last of Mrs. Dent (and we hope saying so is not a spoiler).

Weekly Likes Veronica Mars
LA
Weekly's Robert Abele wrote a piece in the Nov. 5-11 issue about
the appeal of Veronica Mars, and it mentions its predecessors
in TV greatness such as Twin Peaks or Buffy. Here's a sampling
of what's inside:
"Its
tempting to play marketer and describe the new UPN show Veronica
Mars as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Raymond Chandler. But in
this smart, engaging series about a former popular girl turned
crime-solving high school outcast, the hard-boiled dialogue comes
from its teen protagonists mouth in a way that stabs any
potential cutesiness in the heart with an ice pick."
The
article also features a new photo of Kristen Bell and Percy Daggs
III as Veronica and Wallace, which accompanies this news item.

Joke In "Return of the Kane"
A
character name in the November 2 episode may be familiar to fans
of Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas' young adult novels.
His novel "Rats
Saw God" includes a character by the name of Wanda
Varner.
Wonder
if she's a narc, too. Hrm.

MTV Veronica Mars?
It
seems that MTV skipped out on re-airing last week's Veronica
Mars on Tuesday in favor of a Real World marathon,
and it doesn't appear to be listed for next week either.
Since UPN is not available in all parts of the country fans have
been relying on MTV for their VM fix. We'll keep you updated.

Kristen
Bell Chat Event: Details!
The
official
UPN site hosted two online chats tonight (Nov. 2) after the
East Coast airing of the show. The first half hour featured a
Q&A chat session with Kristen Bell, and then the second half
was with her televised alter ego, Veronica Mars.
Kristen
answered many questions about the show, her thoughts, and other
topics that many fans are curious about. (Like what was her family
and school life compared to Veronica's? What's the deal with Logan?
Is Veronica still in love with Duncan? And has she noticed the
similarity between Veronica and Smallville's Chloe?)
Here
at NeptuneSite we've transcribed several of the best answers from
Kristen Bell's chat. You can read the details by clicking

UPN
Orders Four More Scripts!
Yahoo!
News is reporting that UPN has ordered four more scripts for
Veronica Mars beyond the 13 episodes that were originally
ordered. This could be a sign of UPN's confidence in the show.
Of
course, to ensure these four scripts become actual episodes, you
all are going to convince your friends to watch... right?

Teddy
Dunn on Lilly Kane's Killer
The
Oct. 31 issue of TV Guide features a favorable two-page
article about Veronica Mars. The article includes a new photo
of Kristen Bell, and the most interesting tidbit is a quote from
Teddy Dunn (Duncan) about Lilly Kane's killer:
"None
of us knows who killed Lilly, and nobody wants to be the one who
did it," he told TV Guide. "That means getting
written off the show, and on a show this good, that would definitely
suck."

Mars again was at the bottom as far as viewers go, which is
why it is important for fans to spread the word about the show.
