UPN's Biography of Sydney Tamiia Poitier
Sydney Tamiia Poitier stars as Mallory Dent, a popular journalism teacher at Neptune High School and a mentor to Veronica Mars, in UPN's new drama series VERONICA MARS.
 
Poitier was recently seen in a recurring role on the hit CBS drama "Joan of Arcadia." She also starred in the girl rock group comedy "The Devil Cats," which won Best Picture at the 2004 Sonoma Valley Film Festival and was featured at the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival

Her first film role was in Sterling Macer Jr.’s "Park Day," which won the Audience Award at the 1998 Urbanworld International Film Festival. She followed that in 1999 with the made-for-television film "Free of Eden," playing the lead opposite her father and Phylicia Rashad.

In March 1999, she appeared in her first studio film, "True Crime," directed by Clint Eastwood. Poitier later starred opposite John Goodman in Helen Mirren’s directing debut "Happy Birthday."

In television, Poitier played the title role of Abby Walker in the UPN comedy "Abby," and was a series regular on the legal series "First Years," opposite Samantha Mathis. Poitier also starred in John Irvin’s epic mini-series "Noah’s Ark," opposite Academy Award winners Jon Voight, Mary Steenburgen and F. Murray Abraham.

Poitier currently lives in Los Angeles.

Some Things You Might Not Know About Sydney Tamiia Poitier:
- Although she appeared in the opening credits for the first eight episodes of Veronica Mars, Sydney Tamiia Poitier only appeared in less than half of those. When she was removed from the credits it was said that she'd be back, but it's been several episodes now with no sign of her.
- Poitier's father is one of the greatest and most trail-blazing African-American actors of all time - Sidney Poitier.
